I liked the EP so I'll still check this out
As for the marketing people are talking about, I think it's more magazines and things doing it out of her control, if you want to sell yourself you don't leave a pop band and make a black metal one

Myrkur > Batman

Black Metal is anything but stale. It's actually the genre within Metal that has seen more innovation over the recent years.
If there's anything wrong with the genre it's stuff like this ridiculous album lol

Tbh as overdone as that image is, it's one of the things I like about the genre. I'm not looking for "idols" in my BM, the whole genre is about rejecting that ideology
"I think he meant he didn't mention her gender as though it mattered in relation to the music or the genre at hand."
Fair enough

I mean it's not as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be.
Still not amazing, but there are SOME redeeming qualities here.

I thought this was really refreshing, 'Dybt i Skoven' in particular is great.

I'm not embarrassed to say I love her vocals. Love love love them.
And I think Garm and all these other people that collaborated realize she's pretty special and they tried to build this thing around her but it just doesn't really work.

More like they realized she presented them with bunk and had to make haste to cover it up, a la turning up the bass to 11 to cover up that atrocious guitar sound.

Yup, fantastic vocals. Reminds me a bit of early Dismal Euphony.
Let's hope the music improves.

tbh its only the clean vocals that are good, the harsh ones are nothing to write home about.

They're nothing to write home about, but they're still pretty good tbh.

pretty cool project name tho
edit: wow. this is bad.
|

This isn't just bad, it's an abomination

I'm having a hard time disagreeing more on both points. Black metal doesn't need Myrkur by any stretch, there are plenty of other bands eschewing the tropes of the genre that one girl doing it isn't going to suddenly smash the walls down. Similarly, the album itself is pretty rad.

solo female bm artists are pretty much nonexistent, though.
