28 Days are one of the biggest bands in Australian music. They are up there with bands like Grinspoon and Machine Gun Fellatio. Their sound is pretty much Limp Bizkit with aussie slang and an Aussie slacker attitude. All the rest of it is there, nu-metal sounding guitars, simple drop d riffs, a singer who thinks he is tough stuff and rapped lyrics which seem to go nowhere. I bought this cd when I was 13, going through my "wigger" phase. I was very into nu-metal and 28 Days were one of my favourite bands. This album is the latest 28 Days album and was released in 2002. Listening to this album now, I think it is awful, but I am going to try and be totally objective here. This music is basically Australian yobbos singing Limp Bizkit. Still, this is one of those albums where even if you like nu-metal and the singles off it, you buy it and are dissapointed.
The Band
Vocals - Jay Dunne
Guitars - Simon Hepburn
Bass - Damian Gardiner
Turntables - Jedi Master Jay ( )
Drums - Vinne Jukic
Say What- One of the better songs on the album. It starts with a bass intro, and the the nu-metal guitar riff comes in. The singer starts singing, randomly throwing in f- and sh- words. Although the lyrics suck, the song has quite a nice groove, and if you can get past the stupid lyrics and turntables, you may just be able to appreciate this song. This song loses a lot of points for the nonsensical swearing though.
3/5
Early Mornings- Again, stupid lyrics. They are about how the singer doesn't like to get up early. The best part is the prechorus, where the singer does this thing that's sort of inbetween rapping and singing. But that part is ruined again by random and stupid nonsensical swearing. The chorus is lame, after the singer sings his line, these men say "HEY! HEY!". Quite stupid. And the ending sucks too, it's just really weak.
1.8/5
True Story- The lyrics are a bit more serious in this song, they are about a girl who cheats on her boyfriend. But then again, they are dealt with in a silly and immature way. The song is kind of punkish and is sort of a mix between Limp Bizkit and old Blink 182. Again, the ending is awfully crap.
2.5/5
A General- This song is pretty similar to the last song, musically and lyrically. The chorus is kind of cool and for the first time, not wrecked but stupid random swearing. The rest of the song is pretty crap though. The chorus sounds a bit like Blink 182...nowhere near as good, but it's not too bad.
2.8/5
Tunnel Vision- The feedback at the start is pretty cool and the riff is ok. The turntabling is actually pretty cool too. The intro isn't bad, but when the song starts you pretty much realise it's a copy of "N Together Now" by Limp Bizkit with a heavy Limp Bizkit style chorus. The lyrics suck as well, they are about stupid lame things, like the singer telling people to suck his *****. The song is filled with crap swearing as well, like there is this bit where the instruments play a riff and then stop and the singer just yells out "F**K YOU!!!". It's as nu-metal as you can get.
1/5
Take Me Away- The riff of this song is pretty good. The lyrics are serious and not stupid for the first time on the album. However, they are poorly written. This song would be a decent song, but the singer ruins it. His voice doesn't really work and his lyrics are pretty lame. This song is slower and softer than anything on the album so far. This is one of the best songs on the album.
3/5
What's The Deal?- This is another one of the better songs on the album. This song is pretty funky. The guitar is anyway. The chorus is actually memorable and the guitar and turntable parts a written well for the song. The song is about chilling out, and the lyrics suck as usual, but the rest of the song isn't half bad. It does get fairly samey though and you get bored. The vocals aren't the best either. There is this stupid vocal sample before the chorus of this girl saying "well that was so". It takes away from the song. Despite that, this is probably the best song on the album.
3.2/5
Just To Make You Happy- Well, the last song was half decent, but now this song just sucks again. It's basically the same as the earlier tracks with different lyrics. As usual, the lyrics get wrecked even more by the singer's stupid random swearing. The song is not catchy at all, with the main hook being "I don't wanna be the one who tells you what you wanna hear". Needless to say, it doesn't catch you at all.
1.5
Pessimy and the Devil- This is the same song as "Say What" with different lyrics and a stupid attempt at screaming. Then he just starts rapping. The only good thing in this song is the drumming and the turntables are sometimes ok. It's a crap song.
1/5
Photos- This song, again is the same song as the early tracks. The lyrics are a bit more serious, but they don't work at all. The main part of the chorus is "you always give your four leaf clover, it's over". Needless to say, the lyrics are awful.
1/5
Eats Away- The same song as the earlier tracks, with a faster tempo. It sucks. The part where they have multiple male voices yelling as if they are at a football match is the worst. The song is under 2 minutes. Thank god.
0.8/5
Stealing Chairs- There is a small amount of variety in this song, but it uses the same forumla. It sounds just a tad different. There are some keyboard sounds in it. The lyrics are bad and the music isn't too good either. Just a little bit better than the others. Not much though.
1.5/5
Tracks 13-27 are blank
January- This song is alright musically, the rest of it sucks. The guitar is pretty cool and the drumming is rather good. The turntables are also used well. The lyrics and vocals suck.
2/5
In conclusion, even if you liked the singles from this album ("Say What?", "Take Me Away", "What's The Deal"), don't buy this album. Don't even burn it, it's a waste of 50 cents. Just download the singles. If you are a fan of 28 Days' sound, get some new music. If you don't want to, then buy "Significant Other" by Limp Bizkit. It's far superior. Just don't buy this album. If you find it lying on the street, then pick it up and keep it, but otherwise, I can't see anyone liking this album.
