But Emperor were symphonic BM to an extent

Still thats only one band. Most bands playing that style of black metal are pretty irritating. In the end though its all up to personal preference but I always liked my black metal more raw and absent of keyboards. Just feels more honest and without any bs

amazing 3-minute guitar solos
hahahahahahahahahahaha
i mean if the genre isn't your thing that's cool, but it's not really meaningful to just say the whole genre is bad. Carach Angren, Old Man's Child, Nokturnal Mortum and of course Emperor are all great bands

Dimmu Borgir too.

Emperor are barely symphonic bm, which is why they destroy any other band of the style.

Emperor pretty much invented symphonic bm so idk how you could say there aren't a symphonic bm band.

yeah the thing with emperor is that they did an amazing job blending their synth work so it didnt sound overpowering in the mix. seriously though anthems and nightside both have extensive synth work, its pretty goofy to say they aren't symphonic. they even have the synth heavy atmospheric intro/outro tracks that pretty much define a symph bm release
fuck man now i have to go to listen to both of those, they're so good

so much cheese...this is the first CoF i've bothered with since Nymph; is this is norm now?

exactly. symphonic bm just happens to be the worst bm subgenre to ever exist
No way. Ambient black metal and suicidal/depressive black metal are so much worse. Folk black metal is pretty terrible too. And progressive black metal.
There really isn't cheese on this. The female parts/symphonic elements are pretty tastefully done and the former is simply a concession to the band's "gothic" side. There aren't even spoken word parts on this.

Idk if I agree with the first part of what you said Brandon, but I completely agree with the second part.

I wish there were more female parts to be honest, Lindsay has a beautiful voice.

Most ambient black metal is just terrible Filosofem imitations. Most suicidal/depressive is like a kindergartener's interpretation ambient black metal with half-asses "alternative" melodies thrown in haphazardly. Most folk-y bm is cheesier than symphonic black metal, an progressive black metal is generally just a fucking mess of over ambitious, horribly executed ideas.
Obviously each have exceptions but overall, #trvth

More female vocals instead of unmemorable thrash riffs would be great
