"Is this more self-titled than Heart Attack?"
Yes Freak.

nice one Davey.
Cliffhanger is definitely a jam - not sure what i think about the album as a whole yet though
|
| |
Excellent. I'll jam because it's punk-pop season. I skipped Heart Attack after hearing one track and getting turned off, but the s/t is a guilty pleasure.
Also, good review as always Davey.

I wanna check these guys out, its just that all of their albums seem to be shit on ratings and I'm not sure if thats an indication that sputnik dislikes pop punk or these guys aren't actually good.

Whoa, where did this come from? Didn't even know it was coming out. I'll have to go check it out.

Let it sink in Atari.
Hope you like it Freak. I really think the move to Stevenson producing got them back on the right track.
A1990, it's probably a bit of both depending on who you ask. One of the singers has a rather nasally voice, which is always divisive.
Alter, I'm actually pleased that many are saying the same thing, because I was worried I simply missed all the hype & promotion. Since these guys haven't shied away from the gimmicky in the past, I'm kinda glad they released this quietly.

Heard it. Gonna give it a couple more listens and let it sit, but I'm digging it so far. It seems to me it's a more varied album than their last, so that's good.
Oh and nice review Davey ;)

Good to hear you're enjoying it... & thanks.

there are a LOT of mixed opinions about this band all over the net and it's quite amusing. The majority seem to think real talk is their 'gem' and nothing else comes close to it...but I've always thought their s/t was significantly better than their debut personally. Starting to like some songs on this other than just cliffhanger though, the problem is i can only listen to man overboard in smaller doses

That there is Atari. I think at this stage, most of those opinions are already decided before even listening. The band may have not done themselves any favors over the years either, hence why I didn't mind the way this LP was released almost under the radar.
As for their 1st 2 albums, I have them about the same. 'Montrose' is easily their best song though. So much nostalgia there.

the human highlight reel has some pretty great songs as well, driveway in particular
|

If my favorite pop punk bands right now are FYS, TSSF, and the wonder years, will i like this?
|
| |
prolly, they're slightly more poppy though
damn this album is catchy af, trying to decide if this is my favorite man overboard now. splinter, reality check, anytime, the note, cliffhanger all rule hard. I'm even starting to enjoy she's in pictures...possibly their most consistent album

Well, I like those other 3 bands, so I guess the answer is "yes". But as Atari said, these guys are a little more poppier.
Atari, you're proving my "grower" theory to perfection.

She's In Picture is a pretty fun track, the rest are sorta meh. Band are Blink-182 wannabes

I think that's one of the weakest tracks here... There's just nothing at all memorable about it. So we're obviously coming from different direction to this LP.
|
| |
glad to solidify your theory davey haha
on another note, i don't think this band sounds like blink-182 at all despite them having 2 vocalists

You took the words right out of my mouth Atari. They're clearly influenced by Blink, but I disagree that they sound like them a great deal. I guess a non pop-punk fan may think so, but otherwise, they really don't at all, apart from maybe 2 or 3 songs.

Already liking this better than the last

I think most who at least give this a chance, will like it more than 'Heart Attack'. That LP rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
