Never liked the stuff I checked from their first two albums. But "Distant Past" is very good. Gonna stream right now.

Yeah so... this is way to edgy to get anywhere in mainstream music in 2015, just saying.
It's also pretty good.

So the new David Maxim Meh-cic album review got featured and neither Get to Heaven review did?
Ugh.

Well, good to know that Fantano gave this an 8/10. So the average should jump up just a tad bit.

why? Most people on sputnik hate Fantano.

Regardless of what the general consensus of fanta is, almost every average will change depending on his review. The Dance Gavin Dance album dropped from a 4 to a 3.7 shortly after his 1/10 review. This album was at a 3.8 and jumped back to a 4 right after his review.
You could say it's a coincidence, but if you follow the rating trend for albums on here, you can usually notice they slightly shift depending on how Fantano reviewed and scored the album.

Could be a coincidence (moreso in the latter case, because it might just be that people were turned onto this by him) but holy fucking shit if it isn't.

Dance Gavin Dance review sprung up on April 20th, here were all the scores on that specific day:
http://prntscr.com/7tfptp
Compare that to the scores BEFORE the review:
http://prntscr.com/7tfqet
http://prntscr.com/7tfqtp
Now the scores AFTER the review:
http://prntscr.com/7tfr9a
Those are only small samples, but you can see that the scores started getting more and more negative right after the review. It's your call, but I also remember that on the day of the review for Instant Gratification that about two or three pages of the thread was dedicated to people whinging about how the average kept dropping.

But on the other hand he's very much apathetic about some bands that are huge crowd favorites on here (The National, The Antlers) and it doesn't influence the opinion on here at all.

Just looked him up on wiki - apparently only recent albums he's rated 10/10 are Swans and Death Grips and you say he doesn't rate The National or The Antlers.
Where do I subscribe lol

Ah, sorry I know this dude, watched a couple of reviews before, his comedy skits are painfully unfunny.
Just checked out the Death Grips and Swans ones for the lols, 'Death Grips make a sound that is violent and hoooorrifying, and the sleeve is hoooorrifying too'. Basically he fell in love with the album cover, we've all been there I guess

So this is really really really good. Getting a "Remain in Light" vibe from this as well, it feels slightly uncomfortable with those twitchy rhythms and almost psychotic lyrics. I'm not saying it's as good as "Remain in Light", but it's definitely a strong album.

Ed this isn't quite up to Remain in Light standard but there's not that much in it for me
