This album is def a 4.5 bruh. My rating is definitely my complete fanboy-ism showing itself, cause this band does something for me few do. Winter is obviously a sprawling, interconnected piece, whereas this record's tracks are more compositionally self-contained. They achieve different things, but the quality of the writing and execution is fucking impeccable. Their previous albums are excellent (albeit a bit bloated, typical of the atmospherics/post-black sub-genres) but Fen have really come a long way. Next album is in the works and they're promising big things for 2019!

5s are mostly just 4.5s that strike that extra chord with the individual tbqh fam. It's like women. A 10/10 woman is just a 9 that checks the right boxes for that person. That last bit is almost always subjective. Unless we're talking about Symbolic by Death. That's objectively a 5.

Bumped this to a 5. The production here is flawless. Absolute masterpiece. I cannot pick a favorite song - all are sooooo great. Fuck, those tremolo picked sections are brilliant.

Love the variety on show here, they don’t get bogged down in repetition for repetition’s sake in order to create a cohesive atmosphere, they keep it interesting & still succeed in that regard as well. Might end up bumping this one too.
