yeah i think the "playing it safe" is the main thing hurting this one, the songs are solid as fuck & the band sounds great, but like, when you consider their course of action on previous albums - King for a Day for example would throw you from a mosh pit to a jazz lounge then back out again in 4 tracks - it feels sort of limited. And yeah yeah I know they made that shit 20+ years ago but the thing is that they sound & seem like they're still capable of such fantastic hijinks, just weren't really dealing it out on this album aside from a couple parts perhaps

hadn't seen my rating for it in a while, was definitely still feelin that "holy shit new FNM album" buzz but fuck it i'll keep it, cos it really is SOLID if nothing else. and unless i'm comparing it directly to other FNM i don't really have much reason to bring it down anyway

A 3.5 wouldn't feel right with bangers like Cone of Shame, Separation Anxiety and Black Friday on here so I confidently keep my 4 as well.

It does for me though as those three jams are almost flawless, and I also enjoy all other tracks quite a bit so it's a solid 3.9 for me I'd say.
