The Black Halo is more theatrical than sheer cheese.

Listening to this in its entirety for the first time believe it or not. This is a confusing record to me:

At times there's sections straight from mid-era Kamelot, but the brunt of the album sounds like songs Nightwish would put out. More symphonic than power at this point. The quality of most songs is respectable, but it also becomes more clear that Roy was the biggest piece of this band and his absence created an unfillable void.

"Under Grey Skies" is probably my favorite after 1 listen.

Yeah this pretty forgettable stuff. I considered 3 but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and go 3.5.

It is a somewhat conflicted record, that much I'll agree on. I'm personally a big fan of Veil of Elysium and Liar Liar. Up front it sounds and feels like such an average quality album, but it's held up fairly well despite those impressions. At the very least it's less awkward than Silverthorn.

Veil and Liar Liar are definitely among the better songs - agreed. Granted I'm only on my 2nd listen of this but I think I slightly prefer Silverthorn to this, although both are a gigantic falloff from prime Kamelot.

Honestly not really. It's worth a listen since it's Kamelot but I'd prob give it a 3.4.

new album is called The Shadow Theory. Apparently there's going to be industrial influences in it. I'm hyped as fuck.
