Band rules. Prefer Corpsegrinder but respect Barnes as he had some outstanding moments.

@ Flyhead
The Corpse is too violent for some folk.

their second best album after The Bleeding IMO.

First two tracks on here are good, the closer is okay, the rest is eh. CC is a joke band imo but they host plenty of good riffage.

They were a joke band until they pulled themselves together ten years ago

Corpsegrinder is better by a long shot.
Don't think they ever actually pulled themselves together, just got a tad bit less offensive so they wouldn't get banned so often.

Read the review for Kill on this site, it goes into all the ways they reinvented themselves, in the songwriting and especially the production and guitar sound

How are they a joke band....?

I just cannot take them seriously Hawks. They are too silly and I find them extremely generic, like a metal band written for a Fox sitcom. Jam Death and live on mate

lol about caring about lyrics so much in Death Metal, especally in a band such as this where imagery in artwork and their groove is what they focus on.

Why you would care that much about cannibal corpse lyrics is something I'll never understand.
|

Caring about CC lyrics, fuck even death metal lyrics in general, is stupid. Shits not supposed to be poetry. There's problems I have with this album, but the lyrics arent one of them. Stuffs supposed to be tounge in cheek.

dunno man. The guitar and drum work is fantastic but I've always wanted good lyrics in extreme metal to be paired with good music. That's why I like Death, (some examples of) Carnifex, Dissection, old Centinex, Edge of Sanity, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Make them suffer so much. They all have instrumentals I enjoy along with lyrics that are usually really good.

course my taste is shit anyway when it comes to this type of thing

I'm more familiar with the Corpsegrinder-era material, though having said that, I think both these albums with Chris Barnes and the recent offerings with CC's current vocalist have their share of strengths and weaknesses; the artwork doesn't fuckin' count.
Hammer Smashed Face brings me sadistic joy.

kill and skeletal domain are their best by an unimaginable margin.
Kill or become gives me chills.

I don't understand how anyone who's listened to music for more than a few years could outright ignore lyrics to a song, they're almost as important to a song as the music, and when the song titles alone are this nature, and I look up the lyrics and see what they're saying, it turns me away. They are the meaning of the song, after all.
