The review and album were both good.

Anybody else think a lot of the guitar parts have that generic, distored sound that you can find on virtually any modern rock album? Some of the riffs get so tedious; Jambi, for example.

Tool is overated
I have Aenima and Lateralus, and I rarely listen to either, its not that I don't enjoy the songs (Third Eye, Schism) its just that I can't listen to either album from start to end without getting bored, and I have tried many times to get into them, I just don't get any spark, the individual songs are well written, but not to the point where I'd want to put up with useless repetition and inane filler
I don't think I'll be getting this, nothing suggests that it will hold my interest any better than Tool's other albums

Nice review

great review yada yada yada will have to check out.

I'm still apprehensive of buying this, though I know I'll probably dig just for the cover art alone (which I've been repeatedly told that its awesome.

Great review, great album, i wont say your review was honest- i didnt think you were going to lie to me, instead i will say that you made very very good observations on this album, which i agree with. i gave it a 3.5 after listening to it i might change that, but im not sure yet. the album art is awsome, but i would think that the surrealist, Beksinski's art would have been even cooler. check it out, you might have an appreciation for it- http://www.beksinski.pl/. oh yeah and hes a badass polockThis Message Edited On 05.03.06This Message Edited On 05.03.06

As I have stated before on another review...this album is a lot harder to digest than the others...I think its hard to say something about the album...declaring whether its good or bad after a few days. I really have to give it some more listens...out of respect for Tool, for making amazing albums in the past (Tool is my favorite band, so I was psyched about it)

Personally, so far, I think Vicarious is the best track on the album. I think every one of the band members shines on it. I do find the riff for Jambi repetitive, but I think its in a good way...it is a bad ass riff after all I haven't gotten into Rosetta Stoned at all yet, its taking me a while.

I can't really say much more...I haven't given it enough listens...loved your review though Iai...I am considered by most people I know to be a Tool-fanatic (as in, I know all the lyrics to every one of their songs), but this is somethin' new from them...yet very familiar.

If that makes any sense

This album is pretty amazing, I just got it yesterday. Vicarious is one of the best Tool songs of all time.

Beautiful, twisting, turning. Lovely rhythms, time signatures, drumming, all emmense and classic, guitar chops to make all the biggest metal bands take cover in fear of the onslaught pending. The bass is versatile, funky, rocking, the vocal is like nothing Tool have done before. Its all very amazing, this comes from a fan of King Crimson and Pink Floyd, but then again thats part of Tool's influences, Robert Fripp would be impressed, as we all should be. If you are a shredder, don't listen unless you want to be educated in real musical abilities. If you don't like it, keep your feelings to yourself. This is my favourite of 06, probably the best Tool you can get to date. the monster is adapting and changing with the times, and in this modern world where bands come and go, its adapt or die. Tool have adapted where they had no need to, the following they have is cult and we love them as a collection of 4 artists. But nethertheless they still change, but because they want to, the experiment is a continual evolving process. Thank you Maynard, Adam, Danny and Justin.

I swear, every time I call myself arrogant, Jom or Med are right on cue to say 'Surely not!' or 'Heaven forbid!'.

Thanks.

On a side not...has anyone seen them live recently? From what I've heard Maynard's become more confident in his live shows recently, and the new songs work pretty well in a live setting. Just curious as to how people's perspectives may have been changed. This Message Edited On 05.04.06

I heard the Pot, Vicarious and Jambi from Coachella. Haven't seen them though. The songs sound awesome live. Especially The Pot.

This is my 2nd favourite review for this album, it balanced well the two sort of sides people seem to be taking on this i.e. One which says ITS TOOL ITS GODLY & UNCRITICISABLE and the other which says THEY SHOULD HAVE COMPLETELY REINVENTED MUSIC THIS IS A FAILURE!

I think Im going to give this a 4 for the moment Ill see later how I feel

Top review, I agree with the train starting well then grinding to a halt. But i reckon you didn't give danny enough credit, some of his fills on this album just make me smile, and his tabla? skillz in intenstion are pretty nice too.

The annoying things about this album for me is it lacks substance throughout the latter half, it lacks progression from lateralus and worst of all it lacks the flow that other tool albums had. For me, the wings series => the pot sounds horrible...

3.5/5 (11th time posted or something silly, haha)

Good review dude - I liked it.

Although, I'm not too sure why everyone doesn't like this one. As I've said in multiple posts, I am in love with this CD. And I'm a Tool fan who bought Undertow in 1994 when I was 13, so I think I know their stuff pretty well.

I guess I'll have to listen again. Maynard has sang a lot pseudo a capella. I think there has always been some kinda music quitely playing. Just like in sober you can hear Danny barely playingThis Message Edited On 05.04.06

This review was incredible; had me hooked from the opening sentence to the last. Although I don't agree with your rating, I agree with most of the points you made. This album is not as good as 'Lateralus' or 'Aenima'; IMO, those albums will never be topped. Yet '10,000 Days' holds it's own. A solid release.
