I'd say it splinters in enough thematic directions that it doesn't feel didactic to me, but it is definitely very self-serious, "for free" notwithstanding

The second half of U is such sloppy greatness. His “drunk voice” is so addicting to listen to (IM FUCKED UP, but I ain’t as FUCKED UP as U!) and the synthetic horn pad makes it sound like Majora’s Mask or some other video game style, just so good

Was driving to a small punk fest in OKC from Mississippi and just listened to hip hop most of the way to offset all the loud rock and hardcore I'd be seeing. I heard this whole thing and Untitled Unmastered again for the first time in many months and holy shit is it just as immaculate as I remember. May it never be forgotten.

whaaaa? DAMN more than this? TPAB is so grandiose, vast, versatile, and important. DAMN isn't anywhere near as creative or inspired

i know, but i think that's part of it. this is a monolith, it's a landmark, it's a novel. it's an album to be analyzed and studied and consumed with great care.

DAMN is a record, one with great songs that doesn't require a lot of brainpower, but conversely offers more on a purely superficial level (imo).

in short, when i'm just at home or driving around and want to listen to some Lamar hip hop, I almost always reach for DAMN or GKMC. TPAB is an album i listen to from start to finish, lying in bed in the dark at night before i go to sleep.

Yes, I was a prime mxtabs user back in those days and joined sput not long after they launched as kind of a subsidiary of mx.

it wasn't long after that when mxtabs got shut down due to legal issues lol.

i have lurked on and off pretty much that entire time and have made random lists over the years but have only started logging music and commenting in the threads (Regularly) within the past year, hence the sudden increase in activity and surprise when people see how ancient my account is.
