people saying the new one is better are nuts. This one's at least got some tunes. [2]

“Sugar Boats” is so goofy but it kinda fucks

The little banjo (could be a plucked viola or sth?) arps on the ground walks are so damn catchy

There's so many instruments on newer MM albums, it's not even worth digging into. I'll say banjo.
Honestly might prefer this to We Were Dead by a smidge. That one has Parting of the Sensory and Spitting Venom, but I rarely go back to it as a whole. This one's good enough that I could see it being a 3.5 soon.
Lampshades on Fire, Ground Walks, Pups to Dust, Sugar Boats, and The Tortoise and the Tourist are all good.

Always been pretty lukewarm on sugar boats, sounds like a WWD b side in a b side way not in an better-than-most-of-the-album way like most actual WWD b sides

That one's probably at the bottom of that list, I'll admit. Ground Walks and Pups to Dust are the real highlights for me.

The rep of this album is going up the more that's released after it

Anything would look good preceding Golden Casket.
Hell, I look good compared to Golden Casket and I'm not even a modest mouse album.

Wow, I just went back two pages and I basically said everything I said on this page about this two years ago. Right down to the list of favorite tracks. Now I gotta say something novel.
Wicked Campaign sounds like Kings of Leon or something. Should've cut it.

I’ve always thought this was pretty great, and so much better than Golden Casket. Ground Walks, Shit in Your Cut, Coyotes, Pups to Dust, Tortoise, and The Best Room are excellent. Opener, closer, Ansel, and Lampshades are also pretty good. Wicked Campaign is okay but sounds like a rip-off of The National. Pistol and Sugar Boats are also adequate but I never really feel like listening to them.

They skipped mediocre and went straight to bad on that one, for sure.
In this one's case, it probably didn't help that it took 8 years to release. It's solid, but underwhelming compared to how big and explosive WWD and good news were (even if this is better than the former).

'Wicked Campaign' sounds like The National ;)
A B-Side level National tune though
