Great review, especially for a first so pos'd. I'd consider putting capital letters on all the song titles, "Warrior without a war" looks strange when most of the others are capitalised.

Also, "Petri's arrousing savagery." I hope you meant 'rousing'.

But yeah great review man, just be careful not to make them into quasi-track-by-tracks because they can become overlong and convoluted.

Thanks for feedback man ! I edited the review accordingly.

Arousing was indeed a ... "poor" choice of word. My bad !

kind of agree with noctus generally about this band, i don't really think the first two LPs are leaps and bounds ahead of some of the later stuff. wouldn't necessarily disagree that the s/t is the "best" but i've definitely played from afar a lot more, and i would definitely put from afar and probably victory songs above iron.

that said unsung heroes was a snore fest during the one listen i gave it and i can't really see myself giving this a shot :/

Yeah so I decided to give this a go, and while its an improvement over Unsung Heros, it still really isnt that good.

s/t is overrated as hell. It's amazing album, yes, but not classic album. All Petri era albums are better (Well maybe not Unsung Heroes)

It not up for debate, anyone who says post Jari Mäenpää makes for the better Ensiferum is talking large quantities of anal matter.

ensiferum has always been hit or miss for me but from afar imo is their strongest body of work

Just listened to this first time. My first impression is that it's not as bad as I was expecting but not very brilliant either. "Heathen Horde" made me turn up the volume whereas "Two of Spades" and "Neito Pohjolan" left me just asking wtf. I'm about to rate this 3.0 and I'm afraid it won't get better with time.

eh. actually pretty glad jari left because then we got wintersun and kept getting good ensiferum albums, at least until unsung heroes.

"Two of spades" is actually pretty cool. Not that it fits the rest of the album though.
