I'm listening to Beside Myself right now. It's good, but not a favorite.
Ha ha, I don't think that's Kenn. I think we're the only review of the album that is open for comments, so it's going to attract new people (even if most don't actually post anything).

Kill, which one is supposed to be me??? hahaha I only have this account here, but friends/fans may
have signed up or rated to counter those people who rate a "1" just knock an album down (though i
don't recognize any of the user names). I did post the link to the review on my FaceBook page. Is
there another review aside from Willie's that I have missed?

Hey Kenn! Megadeth is in the market for a new lead guitarist ;)
|
| |
I heard that. Unfortunately, they already have a bad singer and a megalomaniac though, so I'm afraid I
don't have much to offer. ;-) Plus, Dave likes shredders and the only thing I shred is cheese for my
spaghetti.
Hey, why does it say there are 58 ratings when you click the metal charts?

Ha ha. You could help bring them back to their more progressive side.
There's a glitch. Things are being updated and not all code is going blend like it should until things are all done.
|

Oh, I thought maybe you were stuffing ballots for me. :-D Thanks anyhow.

Oh, I see now "Ivoryman" is supposed to be me. I did get a near identical message from someone
telling me their favorite songs, so it's just a fan, sorry. I'm sure Willie is glad to see some new
visitors to the site though.
p.s. For the record, those are not my favorite songs on the album aside from UE maybe. ;-)
Edited to say this is a French Canadian fan. he wrote this on my timeline..."Digging the whole
Dancing with the past double cd !! my favorite song so far beside myself, unnecessary evil, fragile,
spitting better and untouchable and the title track Dancing with the past !!"
See? Just a fan who really does love the album.

So, what are your personal favorites? I've been listening to this for quite a while now and it's my number one album of 2014, and these have settled into my favorites:
- Unnecessary Evil
- Armies of One
- The Scarlet Letter
- Ordinary
- Dancing With the Past
- A Little Light
- Blood in the Water
- Symbiotic
|
| |
Well, I like them all of course (or they wouldn't be on the album).
I am probably biased against a few that I have been listening to for 20 years now, and am happy when some of these are listed as favorites by others.
My faves? UE, Armies, Submerged, Straining the Frayed, Ordinary, DwtP & Symbiotic to name a few, but a couple of them are very fresh to me which might be skewing my opinion.

Which ones are the 20 year old ones?

Are you sure you want to know?

The Telling Skies and Beside Myself were written in 1994 for some demos I did shortly after
Anacrusis split up.
They are both on my website, but here they are...originally both were "orchestral" metal.
The Telling Skies...

Beside Myself (the intro and middle section on DwtP is brand new though)

The only thing I don't like about this album is the production. Other than that, swell stuff. I confirm Beside Myself is an amazing tune... Plus, I pretty much agree with all your picks.
|
| |
agreed hey kenn can we get a hdtracks version or somethin with less compression plz ty
|
| |
No. The albums sounds exactly as it is supposed to sound.
|
| |
thats a shame cos manic impressions and screams and whispers were both amazing sounding and dynamic records and i feel the drums especially suffer from the compression on here but hey i guess i just have pussy ears and cant handle the m/
|
| |
You think Manic sounds better? Really? Wow. I cannot even listen to that album myself, but not just because of the drums. That's why it is impossible to please everyone. Worst guitar tone ever. On that one, IMO (but the bass sounds great). Considering the "drums" on this new album are actually samples there actually is not much compression on them at all, though I do like the cymbals to "breathe'. But I did want more of a natural sound and not a clinical "drum machine" sound.
|
| |
I will say this is the only thing I've ever done that I wouldn't change anything about. I love the sound of all the instruments and
the mix and feels the songs all come across perfectly.
Even S&W has it's flaws though overall it works well.
|
| |
yea of course the guitar tone is like razor blades in your ears (although i think it works perfectly) but the bass and drums sound fantastic with lots of room to breathe as you said. i just thought it would be cool for an option for us dynamic range snobs to get what we want but its cool if not. like most dudes listening through pc speakers and the like will prefer the more compressed modern recordings but us dudes with amps and good headphones are more sensitive to that shit is all, its still a killer album compressed or not
btw hope you realise that manic impressions is one of the most unique and genius thrash records ever made
