I enjoyed my first listen of this, but I can only laugh when Rolling Stone gave this 5 stars. [2]

just skimmed the album. the songs are pretty big. they aren't long in particular, but seem to be. the

slow tempo tracks i find utterly dreary, to use a cliche. the record sounds good, and its got some

good pop melodies. i really think musically this is Edge's band and he does what he wants. here he

wants to move the band forward, a little. meaning give them something solid but a little different

people will want to hear live for some years. this album is definitely "upbeat" and pop. Bono sounds

good, it had several producers but sounds uniform and guided by Edge





i sort of overrated No Line....when it first came out. idk i haven't looked at that review. pretty

sure i did, and did not care for the Lillywhite stuff as much. that album is flawed. U2's best albums

are the ones which show no flaws. it doesn't mean they're perfect, it just means they cover up well.

No Line....let them show, this album tidies them up





if you don't like U2 this will not turn you, no. but don't be surprised if you find yourself tapping

your toe to some of this, sometimes

not terrible by any means. has some good moments and Bono still sounds great. but as far as unusual, big, talking-point album releases from major major artists go, this pales in comparison to Beyonce's late last year or In Rainbows a few years ago which, when all the dust settled on how the albums reached us, were much stronger.

Regardless of whether you liked or hated it in the end, or whether I agree with the specifics, this was a great review.



Far better than the traditional mags or trendy blogs, you actually did your research (or at least bothered to know the history of the band you are reviewing). To top it off, you actually commented on the music for the overwhelming majority of the review, and had something relevant to discuss about it.



There wasn't a single knee-jerk reaction, cliched or tired commentary on Bono or the band. For once I feel like the review was actually trying to understand the music, rather than pumping out a writers ego-tripped asides and attempts to appear to be in the know of what is cool at the fleeting moment.

To the best of my knowledge this is the truth of what is happening:

Under iTunes > Preferences > Store, there are options to automatically download pr-orders, and also automatically download

purchases. By default, these are unchecked. It is ridiculously easy to find and read.



The download would have only been placed physically on a users hard drive space if "automatically download purchases" had been

checked. Again, by default it is unchecked, so at some point the user must have selected this if it is checked.



Anything "free" whether U2's album, a free starbucks download, or a free single of the week from iTunes or elsewhere, is still a

"purchase".



Users who did not have this selected may still have free music show up in their library. WTF? Is there a cloud icon by it? Most likely

with almost 100% certainty, yes (if the auto download option was not selected). This means there is a small shortcut file in your

library for that song, but it is not physically on your drive. clicking the cloud icon would download it.



one of those 2 scenarios is occurring. In either case, no violation of any sort has occurred. You can still control what is either in your

cloud or on your drive.



The album appeared on a drive if a user had the options selected, in order for it to do so

the album showed up in my library and I had to click to download, similar as I would've had to with old purchases.



doesn't bother me at all. it's as simple as hitting delete and confirming. it'd only be irritating if this became commonplace. like when you go to vote and people hand you heaps of pamphlets and how-to-vote pieces of paper that you don't want. but that won't happen. or will it? no it won't.
