The Beggar is largely carried by one track

I am halfway through my first listen of this, having listened to zero other complete Swans albums beforehand, and... My god, I have no idea what the actual hell I'm listening to but I know I love it because it's scratching a deep itch *somewhere* in my brain and I don't want it to end...
What even is this stuff? It's great and terrifying and beautiful all at the same time, I've never heard anything like it before

There's no band that scratches the same itch as Swans for me. You can hear their influence in a lot of bands but nothing quite the same

How do I explain to my family that I could have Michael Gira bark nonsense at me to the same droning note for 20 minutes and be blissfully happy

I just called it my "meditation music"
Mom actually liked some of their shorter songs, she'd always say "play the liar pile song" (Reeling the Liars In)

What is this whiplash from "Toussaint" to "A Little God" wHAT THE F***
THis album is giving me an existential crisis in the best way possible

"Meditation music" is actually pretty accurate, I could see myself going into a dark room and just laying still and listening to this straight through, it's such a strong vibe/mood

It is indeed absolutely mind-blowing and if you dig this, I don’t think The Seer or The Glowing Man will make you think otherwise.
