They might want to be a grunge band, but you know more than anyone that they're not. Instead of criticising for what they're not how about praising for what they are? I mean, you said "this is shite music [...] on its own merits" which is fair enough, but saying something like "this is shit because it's not grunge" is kinda ridiculous I reckon.
