I already messed up by checking Blue Train/Giant Steps anyway, so my opportunity to rebel against the system has therefore passed.

I’d heard that one before, must’ve forgotten to rate it or something. From memory I didn’t actually connect with it all that well the first time around, so perhaps decided not to rate it (knowing I wouldn’t forget to revisit such an obvious classic).
On my initial foray into jazz I preferred a couple of the Mingus’ classics (Black Saint/Ah Um) + ‘Kind of Blue’.

This makes me want to dive right in as an act of defiance, guess I’m just one of those people. Saying you ‘can’t’ seems absurd to me, maybe it isn’t the optimum way of appreciating his evolution, but everyone is different.
Yeah, your right.
For me, back then, when I knew nothing about Coltrane and I briefly listened to Ascension, it was impossible understand anything.
That's why it was helpful for me to get a closer look at his musical evolution.

European Echoes is bonkers, leave it to the Germans to systematically strip jazz of anything that sounds human
