[QUOTE=newWorld]Robert Fripp said the same thing about prog rock, but not calling King Crimson prog would go against the definition. Same here.

I agree...the whole "oh, we're not prog, we're.....'art rock!'" and such nonsense is just ridiculous. People need to stop running away from the prog label and just embrace it; really, should there be a negative stigma attached to the term "Progressive"? I mean, I guess having a broader definition for progressive makes the word somewhat obsolete on it's own, and begs the question: what IS progressive, and more importantly....what is *not*?
Still, Fripp and Anderson need to get off of their high horses and just embrace the progressive movement.

Personally, I only like genres for the utility they provide in explaining styles to others.

Nice review, I like most of these songs on a generally great record. It is true to say that Aqualung is overated by many people, a lot thinking it is the best of the album. Personally my favourite is Locomotive Breath and My God. The flute solo in Locomotive Breath is nothing short of class and blends extremely well with the piano and guitar work.

I like Aqualung and Thick As A Brick, but i like TAAB better, does Jethro play any of their old stuff on their recent tours?

What I don't understand is how these songs classify as Prog.
To me, they seem like normal (though obscenely amazing) rock songs, with heavy riffs and flute. Except for 'My God', which I can understand.

I have this, but I've only listened to it once.
Hmmm... I'll remedy that.

I was just listening to this today. It's great stuff, but I still dont understand why it has to be classified as progressive.

John Evans did not get a sex change!!!!! It was David (Dee) Palmer who started off doing orchestrations for JT and then joined as a second keyboard player for a few albums. John Evans is now a building contractor in England.

This is a very good review because it says really good stuff about the band and this album which is both extremely very good.

Jennie Evans used to be Jennie Anderson she wrote the lyrics to Aqualung, Ian the music, they divorsed as while back, so she may be using her maiden name or maybe she married John Evans the keyboard player.
As far as rating Aqualung as 3/5, its still my favorite song and Album, the songs are easily accessible, and it has the best lead of any of Jethro Tull,
I had quite a bit of Jethro Tull, Thick as Brick, Passion Play, War Child, Living in the Past, Minstrial In the Gallery, Benefit, Stand Up, This Was, Aqualung is still my favorite.

he's asking how the reviewer can give a 5 avg while also giving the majority of tracks less than 5
but he's also assuming an album can't be more than the sum of its parts
|
| |
Ahh I see, he's asking a question about a review that's almost a decade old, sweet.
