I want to like this, but sorry, this just isn't very good. It's a complete re-hash of AILD music with saosin-esque singing. They seem unsure of what they want to be. The stronger songs are the ones that sound less like AILD and just go for the radio friendliness they are obviously leaning towards. Pretty disappointing honestly.

I don't think this is refreshing in the metal scene as it's really not metal at all. The choruses are almost all pop major key choruses switching from an aggressive, percussive rhythm to a full on mid tempo pop/rock back beat.

I loved Micah from Oh, Sleeper's guest spot and it's just that the singing doesn't have enough of an edge to it to really fit with the quasi aggressive stuff. As much as I want to see the dudes from AILD succeed without their knuckleheaded leader, I'm not sure this is it.

I wouldn't keep referring to them as a "Christian" band or "Christian" individuals, because Nick Hipa said himself in an interview with MetalSucks that they are certainly not a Christian band and he would not comment on the faith status of anybody in the band.

I do dig the vocals but I agree about this missing screams. A few parts sound like they need that added aggression.

I like the songs Temptest and Prophets but this is average, and decidedly so.

Liked it very much. Been hearing it a lot in the past few days. A sight of shore, the mason and prophets are the highlights.

I'm looking forward to listening to this. I heard a single ("All Rise", i think?) and really dug it.

Trying to enjoy this, but It's basically AILD b-sides with repetitive poppy choruses. A few decent songs and the clean vocals are done well, but these guys are nothing without Lambesis.

About the whole Gilbert not singing that much thing, I saw AILD multiple times in their heyday and have seen Oh Sleeper multiple times, and while Josh may sound better on record overall, live he didn't deliver very often, while Blay mostly did. Plus he's so good at harmonies and shit, which he does a ton on the album.

I agree with what others said about you making assumptions and saying too much about their previous situation.

More importantly though I enjoy this record and I like the contrast of Blay's vocals and the heavyish music. I don't like that it's referred to as metalcore so much when for the most part it's just not. I'm kind of back and forth about the bassist's vocals. They're sort of generic but I still enjoy them maybe for nostalgic reasons. I'm glad they put plenty of songs on the record so that I can get a few with Gilbert's voice too if I feel like listening to them. Hopefully Wovenwar and Oh, Sleeper can keep putting out lots of material, both with Blay, but rumors suggest that might not happen.

Awesome review, beachdude. It's really great in that it provides plenty of insight into the situation that spawned the band's formation. I'm excited to check this; Atari rec'd it to me as well.

I didn't like the first paragraph. You're making a lot of assumptions.

That doesn't belong in a review.

You're both probably right, but I was just trying to put this album in context as best as I could, although I agree I probably could've accomplished that better by sticking to the facts. And as far as them being Christian, I made sure to state that both their previous projects were openly faith-based much of the time, but that they explore different territory with this.

I honestly don't think that what you wrote was baseless or unnecessary at all. Obviously just one opinion, but it was an entertaining and informative read.

Thanks man. Depending on how much you enjoy melodic hard rock I think you could enjoy this a lot. Don't go in expecting something super heavy and may be pleasantly surprised.

My initial impression was that it was lacking a little intensity... I really liked

"Archers" and "Matter of Time" on my first listen through. Archers is actually still

one of my favorite tracks, when the screams fade out and they go into that really

melodic part with Josh singing the chorus it gave me chills... But then I was blasting

"Tempest" on my way to work on Saturday and it just kind hit me how good this whole

album is... I haven't been able to stop listening to it since (I'm actually listening

to "Prophets" right now haha)... Except when my Darkest Hour pre-order (which is also

excellent) arrived in the mail.
