but the three genre tags sput has for them makes them seem awful

unless it's shit like babymetal, you should never judge a band by it's genre tags

probably the album i like the most by them as a whole

where as there are specific tracks on previous albums that i like better, this album has nothing that misses the mark

also helps that will you be tomorrow is one of the best songs ever written

I think Embree really stepped up his vocal game on this one, with Will You Be Tomorrow as primary evidence. Dude is killin it

Loving the bass on this, so high in the mix and handles the various grooves so well.

Album started off a little slow, but dem hooks soon gave it a kick up the arse.

every album before this had at least one or two absurdly good hooks (Decrescendo, Apparition, My Lonesome Only Friend) but this has a TON which is easily its greatest strength. Also the guitar tone my goodness

Is their earlier work more sporadic and proggy? This is quite straight-forward musically and feels pretty linear, in the best way possible.

yeah that's why i think this is being judged too harshly. They've never done something this relaxed and it still sounds pretty good.

They started out as a really fast-paced ska band and then they mixed it with prog and the ska was gone by the time Mandala came out

Right, gna jam that next after this.

This is pretty pop punk-y I dno, but somehow feels pretty fresh and avoids being genric.
