I stumbled across a 3 song demo of these guys that was released before this album came out... those demo versions (with all death vocals and not so polished) are even better then what ended up on the album.

no it wasn't imo. Yes, the death growls are much more aggressive (Tony wasn't involved which is probably why), I'll give you that, but the arrangements were a bit less fluid and mature sounding compared to the finals. I sort of wish Cynic had released more of a standard death metal album in the vein of Pestilence or Death and then done this because all of the their pre-Focus demos which are mostly death/thrash are amazing.

I like the fact that the arrangements seem a little more jarring and chaotic, and the vocals are definitely stronger on the demo (although I like the "robot" vocals on the actual album).
