This is my biggest disappointment of the year, even moreso than the new Agalloch.

What, really? Just listening to this now and it rules so far. It's loud and rockin' post-rock, what's not to love?

Which is
Only listened to this through speakers that were like six feet away, but it sounded fantastic. Gonna give it a proper headphone listen probably tomorrow, and then probably 4/5 it.

It doesn't connect with me on NEARLY the level that their last album did, and I don't really know what it is. There's not really any beautiful moments to me on here, whereas the last album was filled to the brim with them, and even the heavy parts aren't as good as some of the heavy parts on the last album (like that one riff about 4 minutes into the title track of the last album). This album just bores the shit out of me and it gets worse and worse every time I listen to it.

I mean yeah there are still some really nice moments on here (like the intro of Emergent), but they are incredibly few and far between for me here. It's not bad, it's just bland. Average really is the best word I could use to describe this.

and so we destroyed everything > this, but i wouldn't call this bland, i really like it

this would probably be a 3.5 for me if it weren't for Traced in Constellations
such a bomb track

Emergent is still the most kick-arse fucking song I've ever heard. I'm in awe of it. In a different league to every other song on here, and quite frankly every other song I've heard in 2014.

It's a freakin' monolith, cohesiveness should be its strength but it actually drags it down when I have to rate the whole lp. I've never had to listen to a post-rock disc like more than 10 times to 'remember it' but this one boy 12 and counting and I still have to remember in which track happens what. First LP was a lot more varied..
Drummer is good, have they changed it from their first disc?

This is my favourite album of 2014 for sure, and that's why I made it into a full album piano cover. If you were interested, check it on bandcamp:

Emergent is unreal, one of the best instrumental songs I've heard.

Can't believe Emergent doesn't get more of a mention. It's in an entirely different league to everything else on here. Amazing song.
