As I said before. I really like this album. I hope one day I'll enjoy other Mastodon albums as much. Every riff, every chorus, every verse, every solo is very enjoyable here and the song structures are fun.
Sometimes when there's no true filler on a album to emphasize the extreme quality of the rest, it becomes less visible.

This was the first Mastodon album I bought. It's good. Emperor of Sand was a little bit better, then Hushed and Grim was a major step up. First four albums can not be beaten (The Hunter comes close to Remission but I can go either way there).

Yeah, I wouldn't argue which album is the best because Mastodon remains a mystery to me. I just happen to like that one a lot.
I'll move on to Emperor of Sand or The Hunter next.

That might be a good plan. I'd go with The Hunter and then maybe Emperor of Sand. Emperor of Sand is a mix between Once More Round the Sun and The Hunter. The production quality of The Hunter with the "zaniness" of OMRTS.
At some point you must listen to Crack the Skye.

I've listened to Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Remission about three times each but for some reason they didn't grab me. I ended up listening to Once More Around the Sun because it was said to be more accessible.
So, I hope one day I can listen to their classics and appreciate them but for now, I'll try The Hunter.

Not a fan of this at all

I think I like the melodic/optimistic aspect of the album and it seems to be what fans of the band dislike it for.

Respect. It took me a little while to get into them too.
I think I started with The Hunter and checked out parts of Remission, then I heard 'Oblivion' and was hooked and all of a sudden it clicked.

If Blood Mountain isn't catching you I recc starting with
Colony of Birchmen, This Mortal Soil and Sleeping Giant. Let them sink their teeth in. Then the rest will fall into place.

I got to know the band through Blood Mountain back in 2007. I even saw them live.
As a first act either for Tool or Machine Head, I can't remember. What I remember is that the intro to Sleeping Giant was horrible (live) and pierced my ears.

I'm taking notes of your suggestions.
Anciients sounds cool.
Off the four first of Mastodon, I think that Leviathan will be the easiest for me to get into. No idea why.

Anciients fucks. A really nice mix of The Ocean, Mastodon, Intronaut, and Opeth.

This is my favorite Mastodon these days. Fun and trippy is not a combo you hear often.
