It's alright.
This and the Hunter turned me off Mastodon a bit tbh at the time.

High Road is some mean dirty pop, slaps. The instrumental bridge is a beauty too.

It's ok but the fact that "Chimes at Midnight" and "Spectralight" are the same song drumming-wise is maddening. I feel like Brann's drumming, while still impressive, isn't as colorful as it used to be.

‘The new record, the stuff I’ve written, it’s not quite as notey as [Emperor of Sand], but it’s definitely got a more like Neurosis heaviness, [with] simplified guitar parts..." - Bill Kelliher’
I missed this, but praying it eventually comes to fruition.

say what you want about the clean vocals and simple song structures -- this is the most disappointing part of the last three albums.

His drumming has become more repetitive since he took up vocal duties more prominently, understandable but I still miss his crazy fills etc.
He's quite boring live too, uses the same fills constantly.

To be honest I did think "come on dude lay off the snare for a while" jamming EoS

Yeah I mean he's still more interesting than ur average rock drummer but he's not quite the virtuoso he was in '04
