Indeed. My bet is that some chants (e.g. at 4:30) were sampled from actual recordings. Either that or Von Meilenwald knew a bunch of choir singers from the local cathedral and invited them to the recording.
'Trial' from his latest album has quite the amazing chants too.

this is a very specific mood album for me, as it's one of the few pieces of music i've heard that's actually kind of scary. scary in the way that something meant to scare you is scary haha. but when the mood is right it's like nothing else
