So do I - up until this release I was convinced that they could do no wrong. Even their EP's like The White and Faustian Echoes were fucking top quality imo

Tbh this band makes me TOO effective and I can only listen to them when I write or am walking alone or some shit
But yeah basically everything other than this is pretty perfect

While it was definitely a disappointing and unfortunate way to end their career, Agalloch's The Serpent and the Sphere is still a solid 8/10. It's just that every other thing they've released is a solid 9+/10, so it gets completely overshadowed. If this album had been released by another band, it would be viewed in such higher regard.

disappointing and unfortunate- 4.0, would recommend

Folklore through Marrow is a god tier run, so i dont fault them for this. it was super disappointing when it first came out and when i learned this would be their last album, but im over it now.

Astral Dialogue - Dark Matter Gods - Celestial Effigy is one of the best 3 track stretches in their discography, and the only real weak track imo is Vales

It literally pains me to see when some people say this doesn't feel like Agalloch.. it still feel very much like Agalloch to me. Not in the same way as the other albums, but like an Agalloch take on a Post-Metal/Post-Rock record, but I still get that Agalloch feel from it I love. I understand people not liking it though; it took me like an entire year to really appreciate it. Still not close to being one of my favorites of theirs, and I'll 9/10 reach for another album they've released when I'm in an Agalloch mood, but it's still good.
Astral Dialogue is one of the hardest raging Black Metal tracks they've done; it's like a condensed Faustian Echoes almost, and the closer Plateau of the Ages is like an epic Post-Rock track with an incredible Agalloch metal touch to it.. I don't know how to describe the album, because I really do get why people don't like it, but it just clicked with me finally.

Damn, don't know if Deschutes is still around but I relate to that post a lot! It was maybe a tiny bit hyperbolic but I appreciate the general sentiment. In a vacuum, this album is pretty incredible tbh.

I mean it's def not anywhere near as good as the first 3, but I think this gets way too much hate. Idk it's obviously just me, but this doesn't bore me at all lol. First track is one of the best songs they've ever made imo.

I guess I could see why people find it boring, but yeah it hits all the right spots for me personally.

It's more cohesive and unified than Pillorian, but I found Pillorian way more exciting. This kind of induces a trance-like state while Pillorian is really direct and in-your-face.
