Ashes is a little too homogenous. I only spin it about once a year.

I'm not a huge ashes fan myself - prefer the mantle.

I've had it in my library for a decade and, with a few exceptions, I still couldn't immediately tell which song is which if I were to drop in at a random point. Every song on The Mantle has a really distinct character for me, while Ashes all has the same languid, hazy sheen throughout. Except for that obnoxious mosquito swarm that eats up the last seven minutes.

agree to disagree then sevengill. to me Mantle and Folklore both blended into one long song for a long time and I never had that problem with Ashes, every song is extremely distinct and has its own mood

"Except for that obnoxious mosquito swarm that eats up the last seven minutes"

which actually rules for the first five minutes or so. then it gets a little obnoxious

The blast beats in Marrow are kinda rickety but the complementary percussion is pretty sweet, timpanis and such.

aye, agree to disagree. maybe Ashes will really click for me yet (for all my gripes, it's still a solid 4)

Pretty sure this one is never gonna fully click. I gave up on it, i dont really feel the need to listen to it again.

Nothing compared to the reverberating deer skull on The Lodge (:

I feel like that's cooler conceptually than musically (it sounds like a wood block) but yeah, the feels on that are pretty sweet.
