But seriously I need to check this out, my friend swears this is the best thing ever... I just listened to First Temple and loved it, but from the sound of it this is pretty different.

This is very different from first temple. Imagine First Temple with the post hardcore replaced by 70's funk/psychadelica, a lot of the blatant hooks removed (not to say there aren't hooks though), a lack of standard song structure, a lot more jamming and the quirk factor amped up significantly.
Great album.

This needs a third review... preferably by a staff member. It's definitely better than a 3 in my book but more like a 4-4.5 than a straight classic... plus this review could use some work.

I really dug this on the first listen. It's groovy, sometimes unpredictable, but certainly interesting throughout. We'll see through multiple listens if this steps up to be a 4.5 for me.

@ unforgiven89, oddly enough... that is the criticism that i would give this album.
there's just an annoying try-hard quality to this that bothers me.
I enjoyed their post-hardcore sound though...in First Temple.
