Finally got around to this. Has its moments but not nearly as impressive or imapctful as Sorrow overall. Me are dissapoint 😒

Idk, I like it more than Sorrow, mostly because this album seems to carry a theme musically, while Sorrow to me was just a bunch of mostly good songs thrown together. I like that album a lot as well, but not as much as this one. Definitely one of my favorite records of the year.

Also, never thought I'd say this about a new Insomnium album but damn, those vocal melodies in "Lose To Night" are really really excellent.

Nah, Sorrow's theme was solid, it just changed slightly from one group of 2 or 3 tracks to the next. This has a coherent feel to it as well, much like DT's Construct. And much like DT's Construct, it's a boring feel 😕

This is quite boring mannerist stuff. They really need to innovate their sound.

I listened to this once and I've honestly had very little desire to listen to it again.

I was well up for this after hearing the first track kick into life, but the rest of it was just kinda... ehhh

I don't listen to much melodeath and I'm just taking it for what it is, which is pretty average IMO

Choccy check out this band's first few, it's some of the best melodeath around

Listened to Above The Weeping World and that was pretty good. But yeah, these guys are on my listen list and just need some time

Starting with Across the Dark they pretty much just plagiarize themselves, like Arch Enemy but better obviously

Doesn't make much sense to call Insomnium generic when it's their sound that gets ripped off by other bands.

I agree with this. They sort of "invented" this style of melodeath.

To be honest, when some month ago i listened to the single Ephemeral i immediately thought: fuck, this sound like a generic melodeath band... cheesy lyrics, catchy refrain, trite riffs. Maybe, Shadows of the Dying Sun is not generic... but it sound for sure of already-made and re-made and re-made.

Said by one who cried thousands of times listening to song like In The Halls of Awaiting, In The Groves of Death, Lay of Autumn, Lay The Ghost to Rest, etc...

man, Ville's live vocals are not just incompetent, they are downright fucking ghastly. I hope to christ he shuts up on the next album, really ruined this one for me.
