it is a contradiction but i get what he's saying. it's like, lulu is a fucking god-awful album but at least it has comedic value, thus making it somewhat entertaining and more enjoyable to listen to than something painfully dull the whole way through like a boring archetypal indie-rock record

It's one of the worst things I've heard in some time - its concept and execution are one thing, but to
me this release is the excess you mention. It's so caught up in its concept that it forgets basic
principles of music making; it's quite literally soulless

Jesus, so much Squarepusher hate up in here. He's had plenty of decent stuff over the last few years. Ufabulum wasn't great but it didn't make me throw my phone out the window either. Just A Souvenir was good and worth the spin for Delta-V alone which was excellent. Maybe this will be good and maybe not I haven't listened yet but I've come to expect a 20% chance of suckatude 60% chance of good to mediocre and 20% chance of brilliance. That 20% chance of real brilliance is totally worth combing through the 80% self indulgence that is Squarepusher IMHO.

omnipanzer agreed, I don't understand it either considering Feed Me Weird Things is one of the best electronic albums ever created, not just in terms of sheer songwriting strength but also the way it effortlessly combines various subgenres to form something cohesive, special and engrossing.
actually i wonder how many of the people in this thread have actually listened to his early works, come to think of it.
