Nah, they weren't groundbreaking. They were following in the footsteps of of Johnny Truant and Beecher early on, and while those bands are pretty unknown I would consider those bands to be groundbreaking in the genre. Ruin is still one of my favourite metalcore albums though, even through Sam's bad lyrics and singing.
