Grew on me recently, definitely their most obtuse record but feels good to finally start cracking it.

One of the hardest records to crack imo, but once you do...

"Disco Volante is an album we should all listen to at some point in our lives, even if we drive ourselves mad while doing so."

What an album. This is one where I was well aware of the greatness within right away, but it took another 10 years before I actually started to love it (I hesitate to say ‘before it started to make sense’, since I still don’t know that it does) and I always discover something new every time I listen. You really have to surrender to the madness fully, and even then it takes some work on your part, but once it all starts to click......

"and I always discover something new every time I listen" oh yes...I believe so...I also believe S.C.I.E.N.C.E.'s hidden track was Bungle inspired.

Yeahhhh, Bungle’s influence cannot be overstated.
Have you checked out some of the related bands/projects yet (namely Estradasphere and Secret Chiefs 3)?

nopsy. Should I? saw Fantomas live and his dozens of mics in front of him

Both are primarily instrumental, so no Patton, but if you dig Bungle’s avant-garde tendencies and compositional style and all the eclectic instrumentation, their stuff is incredible. If you liked “Desert Search for Techno Alla” off Disco Volante, def check out SC3 - their whole sound kinda emerged out of that song. I would try the album Book of Horizons first. Estradasphere is also fantastic, a little easier to grasp for sure. Lots of great influences too - classic film soundtracks, Balkan music, Gypsy music, surf rock, etc. Buck Fever and Palace of Mirrors would be the way to go there.
