cos it's hard to write 600 words on "i like these songs but not these ones"

unless there's an actual reason why the music's aesthetic falls flat
which here there isn't really. just too much filler

I talk about songs within paragraphs when I try to make points about certain aspects of Q in order to support the angle I took with the review.
I like A$AP Rocky because he has a clear personality (the pretty mothafucka) and makes party songs unabashedly. I think he's incredibly well-defined.
I don't necessarily like the comparisons between this and GKMC either but, like I said, Kendrick makes songs about gang life from the perspective of someone who was around it and has gotten away. That's how (I think) Q was trying to present his songs with the inclusion of his daughter and all that but ultimately he just sounded like he still wants to be a gangster/hasn't left it all behind/comes off inauthentic whereas Kendrick is very strong in his convictions and tells a clear story unlike Oxymoron which has a concept that isn't well elaborated on. That you say 'this isn't a concept album' speaks to my criticism of it

there's a fine line between being overly descriptive/analytical and being overly vague and totally missing the mark, i agree.

there is a bit of an undefined blur where q is trying to incorporate a concept but doesn't at all, agreed
the reason the album took so long is because during it's early stages q had a set of work put together that he realized he was subconsciously trying to make a kendrick album. q is more like rocky in that he needs to stick to just being himself, and make high quality "party" songs.
all that being said, i still really like this. it's very comparable to long.live.a$ap to me, in that it's a bit all over the place, but still fun.

"q is not a concept album / hard issue type of artist
q and kdots music is seldomly comparable"
just started writing my review and this is the first thing I pointed out lol

agreed hard, although I find this a bit underwhelming, especially compared to asap's stuff

I never disagreed really, I just wanted to point out how Q isn't a concept rapper, and is more like Rocky than KD, whom you really like.
I like Rocky and Q more the KD, personally. Or would much rather listen to them.

review summed up my thoughts on this album exactly. well done. i believe it thoroughly describes just about everything it needs to. i don't see the complaints.
songs definitely go on for too long. not that i don't like long songs, these just seem to run out of steam by the end.

I like the way you write here, Nathan. As many others have pointed out, you could use a bit more grounding in the album itself- "there are interesting ways to describe the sound of a record," all that jazz- but I'm fond of the way you analyze music in the way you do here

nah, Q > A$AP > Kdot
This is directly linked to their amount of charisma, Kendrick might be a good rapper but his charisma is laughably bad

"Everybody in this thread is wrong."
well there's two opposing parties so it's hard to imagine them both being wrong...
