You guys seem to have way more 'organic' ways of getting into new music than I do, my introduction to DM as a genre was this website. Before coming here I had no previous experience whatsoever and was only interested as it appeared popular here and my curiosity was piqued, guess I just wondered what all the fuss was about. Having no imagination whatsoever I started in the most logical (highest rated) place... Symbolic was lauded as this mind-blowing must hear experience and it didn't disappoint.

Oh neat. I started with bands my friend liked 10 years ago like Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, and some other shitty bands. Cannabis Corpse literally got me into all the really good shit because their song titles are all in reference to classic DM but with weed puns

I've lived a sheltered existence, never knowingly heard LoG or CoB. Not really sure how I ended up with the taste I now have tbh.

Lucky man. Though there is some good stuff by both of those bands I'd entirely avoid them lol.

What's 'girl pants' music? Twee-core and emo sad boy indie stuff? Pop punk? ABBA?

Like the The Devil Wears Prada and Underoath? Maybe Bring Me the Horizon. That's about as core as it got I think.

Nope. I wasn't necessarily expecting core stuff from 'girl pants' either, although still not sure what that means... however it does conjure up some nice images.

lol that was the style when I was like 18 or 19. If you listened to stuff like that- especially the more scene-core stuff- you likely wore girl pants and headbands lol.

OH that's what you mean by girl pants. I haven't heard the expression (thankfully) in like 10 years

“If this is supposed to be death metal about space monsters, where the fuck's Cthulu?”

So yea I know this is like 5 fucking years late but has anyone mentioned that Cthulu isn’t here because he’s a sea monster and not a space monster

He's a world destroyer, so based on that he must travel through space as well.

World destroyers and space travels suddenly bring to mind Noneuclid's debut. Sick album, that. And with more than one link to AB.

Cthulhu is a sea monster FROM space.

I'm glad there's no Cthulhu here though. Cthulhu, as much as I hate to say it being a big Lovecraft fan, as trite af at this point. Only The Great Old Ones and Sulphur Aeon do good Cthulhu shit in metal these days.

I've been thinking what the chuff Cthulhu was? I've seen it referenced a few times in metal.

Go read some Lovecraft. It's great. Apart from the undercurrent of racism, that's not so great. Though it was the 1920s.
