I've never liked the sound of Broken Bells, tbh. The only song that I've really gotten something out of was the High Road (that ending, man.) The rest of their work plods along, never introducing anything That surprises me.

And sure, I don't think Broken Bells is the right artist to come to for unpredictability. I just get bored by the consistently low amount of energy these guys put into the music, which is why it's not my kinda thing. However, the self-titled album did have some more high-energy tunes that I've forgotten about, like The Mall & Misery (think that's the one.)

The high road is the only song by these guys that I truly like.

"The High Road" was one of my least favourite songs from the s/t album. I mean it's good, but for me "Vaporize", "Mongrel Heart", and "Your Head on fire" were the main standouts.

I guess this is one of those bands that isn't for everyone, but I've personally enjoyed everything they've done so far. To me they've yet to make a bad output. I love James Mercer's songwriting and Danger Mouse is like a cross between Brian Wilson and Nigel Godrich in the way that he manipulates sounds and styles into seriously catchy music, so for me, Broken Bells is a godsend.

Love your passion for music, man < 3 I wish I could say I heard in these guys what you do. But to be fair, I'd probs enjoy the self-titled album more today than I'm letting on.

This album bookends itself so well, but the songs in the middle just drag it down so much.

i agree. i mean, i really like a few tracks. then again that's what i used to say about the debut lp and now i like almost all the tracks. don't think this is quite as good overall butyea still better than a 3/5 imo

This album was good but not nearly up to the standards of either artist involved.

More like after Wincing the Night Away, because Port of Morrow wasn't even really a Shins album.

James Mercer & Brian ‘Danger Mouse’ Burton return with their Broken Bells project & 2nd LP 'After the Disco'. More consistent & focused - if a little safer - than their previous releases, the duo prioritize melodies here. Far from innovative, their influeces from the 70s & 80s are so evident that they are actually a little disconcerting! The singles are front-loaded, but the up & down latter half still includes some diamonds in the rough. Ultimately, this is an enjoyable record, even if it still feels better in the moment than it does in the memory. Recommended Tracks: Perfect World, After the Disco, No Matter What You're Told & Holding On For Life.

Guess I'm one of the people in the minority who adored the shit out of this record.
