Still thanking Laura for being the first time I ever actually knew a trans person. Everything else before this lap was just vaguely hearing of the fact that being trans was a thing. Hearing this album as a teenager was like the first time I actually kinda understood the implications of what being trans actually felt like for some. And revisiting it years later as a trans adult is something else.

That's really cool to hear. My ex - who turned out to be a trans man - was really into this or at least the song Black Me Out. Now, he wasn't exactly a nice person, but also really troubled, so I don't want that experience to destroy my enjoyment of AM lol. Maybe I should listen to them for a while to make their music my own thing? Laura is such a good vocalist, it's shouldn't be hard for me

This album is always going to have a special place in my heart, as it was the record that gave me the courage to publicly come out as bi, as well as to start becoming an outspoken LGBTQ+ member/ally
The importance of Laura Jane Grace in the music world can't be understated :]

[3] I remember this coming out just as I was, and while I was dealing with the death of a close friend. Paralytic States, Unconditional Love, and Two Coffins were anthems through depression to me.

t/t is great in a statement-that-perfectly-met-its-moment way but also great in an elementally catchy punk song way. Black Me Out too

yeah i only found out they were done when atom joined alk3
unfortunate as well bc imo shape shift was by far their weakest record and a very underwhelming note to leave off on

Really they were always a vehicle for Laura's songwriting, Im not too pressed about a hiatus (not least because of how inconsistent she's kinda always been, this notwithstanding)
