crash of rhino's last album was easily the coolest/most innovative of this style that i've heard in a while
sport just put out a real good lp too although it's certainly nothing groundbreaking

Yeah I really enjoyed sport's new one, this one is pretty average as with the majority of recent emo releases (this really isn't that emo guys)

It sounds like there's almost some pop punk influence on here

almost? it's the main thing that sticks out in the songs. the whole "emo" vibe is secondary. If this
was released in the 90's/early 2000's it would be considered nothing but a pop punk record. Every hook
sounds like it was pulled off of Through Being Cool. You Blew It! have always had the quality.

"Every hook sounds like it was pulled off of Through Being Cool"
if that were the case i think i would enjoy this more

Oh sweet, a Craigy review.
Anyway, as far as the whole emo thing goes, it's a very quantity-over-quality thing nowadays. Like Adam said, Snowing and their contemporaries at the time came in with a bang for sure but it's really fizzled out since not much has happened quality-wise. Foxing, TWIABP, Evan Weiss and Brave Bird keep it interesting, but that's about it. btw Sport's Bon Voyage > Crash of Rhinos' Knots.

I'm starting to realize that all the best emo bands get no attention

The pitchfork review for this album was really awesome. The best part:
"The bugaboo among some of the scenesters that form the core of YBI!’s audience is that the band has been positioned in the music press as a leading proponent of the so-called “emo revival.” Those that have been paying attention all along understandably bristle at the revival talk. So let’s set that bothersome word aside: What’s really happening is an emo reclamation by a segment of the rock audience that bailed on the genre 10 or so years ago. "
