Saying bad vocals are a deal-breaker for you is fine but to not respect the rest of the band due to a poor frontman makes you sound like an asshole.

Oh man I respect them so much on a human to human level you feel?
Their music is overproduced and 10 years too late - I laugh in their face tbh

This is the website of:
"yeah the singer sounds like a fox orgy in an echo chamber but y'know, the music is cool so I block that out"
hint: there's a lot of music, listen to music where you don't hate such a significant element
if vocals are distractingly awful and omnipresent that is the bad stuff

6 years too late, whatever
it's a Strokes copycat act in 2011
it's a Bloc Party copycat act in 2019
who needed someone channeling Phil Anselmo and Jonny Davis in 2001?

Listening to Mudvayne again...tempo changes try too hard to inject interest in sloppy compositions, everything sounds recycled, the Davis and Anselmo moments are laughable (eg, on the 'cock suckers' part of Cradle which is pure wannabe Anselmo and I don't buy it for a minute)
The bass is gimmicky

What would it coming out '6 years too late' matter for people of an age group who didn't experience that scene when it came out? Don't really see why that tarnishes the quality of it by proxy.

Everything and Nothing is a weak RATM copy with a Korn chorus - I'd take One Minute Silence over it lol

"The bass is gimmicky"
Loud bass leading the music with energetic grooves bringing new life to a usually guitar lead genre had little intrinsic value? Good job.

Sure I'm certain their are people who grew up with Wolfmother who believe they are way better than Led Zeppelin, but I'm not going to agree

'Loud bass leading the music with energetic grooves'
more overloud and embellish-y imo
|

If what you want from Nu-Metal was the stripped-down, raw-ish kinda production from its origins then sure. I just find 'gimmicky' to be a cop-out term of phrase to devalue something which not other bands are doing.

well, I did like some of the more produced material Korn and Deftones came up with...because again they did break new ground.
White Pony was more arty, sensual and restrained
Follow the Leader went more hip hop, goth and pop
Mudvayne just sound in thrall to the best bits of Korn, AIC, RATM, Pantera - it offers me nothing new and the bass style is largely an irrelevance, if that's their trump card it's not enough
|

Fair enough.
They aren't that different from that previous bands minus their tighter rhythm section (that alone is for me a big thing of note) but I think they made a better album then Korn or Pantera did (not heard RATM in full, AIC made Jar of Flies which is just as good).

Has anyone ever listened to the Roach Koach podcast?

the what now
|

It's a podcast that discusses nu-metal albums, and "determine" what goes into the nu-metal canon. And man, they do the first two Korn albums so dirty.
