Thanks for the pos : )
I don't normally tend to do t/t but it just seemed to fit for this album. It's so big a record that it can be easy to neglect looking at all the tracks themselves rather than just what the album as a whole represents and achieved. Plus when dropping a 5 i felt i needed to go in-depth

Understandable. I think "Don't Look Back In Anger" is probably the best song they ever did, but all of the songs are instant classics so no harm no foul
Noel > Liam

I agree, it's the most enduring and inspiring thing Noel ever wrote, and just sounds like a timeless anthem in every way possible. Live Forever is close but Don't Look Back In Anger is sat just a cloud higher.
"Noel > Liam" - In terms of singing or just in general as characters?

"Noel > Liam" in terms of a lot of things. For one, Liam didn't write a whole lot, but when he did it wasn't amazing. Without Noel, Oasis wouldn't have had nearly the success that they had during their careers (see Beady Eye). Personally, I like Noel's voice more than Liam's as well (less whiny, a little deeper). I think Noel is funnier during his interviews too--he attacks others/musicians just as much as Liam, but isn't as off the handle.
I think both of the brothers are egotistical knobs whose egos were only fueled more when they really starting hitting the big time. Even in times of failure (Be Here Now, Heathen Chemistry), they still thought they were amazing, and they both still do to this day. But, I guess you could even say the same thing about Morrissey as well.

@ZackSh33 - Noel is definitely the brains behind the band and the most talented, but Liam has a
weird sort of charm and is entertaining - he's the knobhead people love to hate i guess ha.
It's interesting that you brought up Morrissey too. A lot of Manchester artists - Oasis, Mozza,
Stone Roses etc - have always displayed a sort of cocksure arrogance, but Liam and Noel took that to
another level. Personally i'd rather have artists that have a bit of attitude cos there's too many
boring stars out there don't get up in your face and make you believe in what they're doing. So
maybe there's room for it as long as it's taken with a pinch of salt.
@tommygun - Thanks again man : ) Champagne Supernova is a bit overrated for sure, it wouldn't
trouble my top 10 Oasis songs at all

Love this album but I just can't 5 it based on the production. Absolutely awful mastering job, and the biggest culprit in the loudness war.

I don't really mind the production on this album. The instruments bleed into each other but that was intentional to achieve the massive wall of sound. The production choices on Be Here Now however... ugh!

I like this review almost as much as I hate Liam Gallagher.

Really nice review, pos'd
Referring to the conversation earlier on this page, I completely agree that Noel is a far better singer than Liam and I wish he'd sung on a lot more of their songs, because the ones he sings are usually the best
Also, Cast No Shadow is such a jam

Thanks guys.
Noel has a great voice, technically better than Liam's. But Liam also had some lungs on him back in the day, i mean, he owns tunes like Rock and Roll Star, Cigarettes and Alcohol and Supersonic in a way that no one else could "Sun-shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine"

Liam ruled back in the day
He fucking sucks now though
Whereas Noel still sounds like a boss
Have you seen live videos or b-sides of Noel playing songs like Wonderwall? He always sings them better than Liam.

It's a shame about Liam, his voice was mega, effortlessly brilliant on their first tv performance even https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Or8QahwlC4
I have seen Noel handle a few Liam sung tracks, and they work really well. But some tracks just scream out for Liam, like Rock n Roll Star for example - i think part of the strength of tunes like that came from his rougher vocals and his arrogant persona which went hand in glove with the sentiments expressed in that song and others. But yeah, Noel would definitely be the better singer for all the tracks these days ha.

@Tom - Absolutely. I was going to mention the Roses, and while they certainly were less successful than Oasis (at least in terms of time on the scene), knowing the Gallagher brothers, they probably picked up a little bit of that arrogance from the Roses directly.
I actually saw Noel during his last tour of the States and he tore the place down. He may not have the same sort of "gritty attitude" that you mention in songs like "Rock n Roll Star," but when the vocals needed to be more melodic than brash, Noel always seemed to have the perfect answer.
Also, yes, Noel kills it on that live version of Wonderwall. I also thoroughly enjoy the version of "Slide Away" he did for the Teenage Cancer Trust about 4 years ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOEL_nzfN24)
I'm also glad you mention the Wall of Sound sort of vibe that this album does so perfectly. This has always been an album that isn't the sort of thing you listen to on headphones, but on a car stereo just gunning it. Man, good times.
