Everyone likes to dunk on p4k. It's the accepted cool position to take because their reviews sound pretentious a lot of the time and they're pretty established.
Personally I always found them a bit hit or miss. I enjoy playful language and pretention sometimes though so there's that lol

They probably were wankers too. But wankers with a solid grasp on the english language and who enjoyed to get unnecessarily dense in their analyses/tangents. I kinda dug that as a change from more straight-forward "this gud/this sux" reviews every now and then tbh

there were plenty of other reviewers around at the time who didn’t have that same aura of pretentiousness tho
don’t get me wrong, they were a useful resource for a couple of years before I finally realised how to use this developing internet thing properly

I'm sure there were. Personally I gravitated more to sput for that more communal music nerd aura this place has always had. The best resource is always other passionate people afterall.

honestly the current era of RYM flagellation is preferable just because it has some semblance of individuality and honesty, “for the people” and all the jazz
