black clouds and dramatic are their best since six degrees imo. didnt care much for octavarium

I can't say they're better than Octavarium or TOT because they each have two of their best songs, even if Black Clouds and Dramatic Turn are better overall.

idk octavarium is probably my fave since 6doit, mostly because of the title track

The t/t is my favorite song by them and I love Panic Attack, rest is decent or meh so it's hard to judge it against their more consistent albums that have less wow moments but more songs that are better

the main riff of the root of all evil rocks hard. sacrificed sons is musically impressive as well

Dramatic Turn has grown off me a lot with time, but I was a huge fan when it came out, and I'd still take it over every DT album post-Six Degrees.

"The incredibly well-thought-out Dream Theater-themed Dreamcatcher is without a doubt absolutely beautiful. I have mine set up in my house where I can send out my thoughts to the dream spirits. Dream on and be heard, everyone!"
-James LaBrie about the new Dream Theater dreamcatcher...
There's a limit to stupid marketing

I'd like to see them head into a more jazzy direction for album 13. Lots of prog-metal bands have been fusion lately, so it'd be interesting to see their take on it.
Especially since they're NY based.

"I'd like to see them head into a more jazzy direction for album 13"
Sadly, as much as I'd like to hear that, I think it's very unlikely they'll ever head in a jazzy direction, especially after this. I'm definitely expecting them to keep playing it quite safe from now.
The last trace of jazz in DT died in Scarred, which is a shame, since if anything, that song actually revealed that a jazzier influence could certainly fit their style.
