Lose the interludes, saves about 11 minutes (!) and they don't really do anything anyway, except for Intermission. Always loved how that flows into Jimmy.

Did FI passed this already Trif?

@Pika: Ah, gotcha (HA! GET IT!?)
@DDD: You know, I reeeaaalllyy enjoy FI! Overall it might have surpassed this in rating, but that is because of the interlude business. I still think this is best Tool if only the real songs would have counted.

Yeah...totally get, FI is not exactly a track by track kinda exp (for me)

Exactly. I think I jammed FI twice a day for the last couple of days and it really helps to just let it wash over you instead of dissect it. I get that some people are put off by that though, I was too.

It’s splitting hairs because both are amongst my favorite albums.
Aenima is a bit more consistent, more immediate, more aggressive, more fun. Has the best song (Eulogy). Has only one relatively weak track (Stinkfist).
Lateralus hits higher highs, but is less consistent. More ambitious so there’s some really brilliant moments but then they get lost in the weeds of a bit of meandering prog filler. Two pretty long relatively weaker songs (in the context of these 2 albums quality) - Ticks and Leeches and the title track. After Eulogy probably spots 2-5 in a top 10 songs list come from this album.

Trif, definitely none of these albums are 5s or 4.5s if you account for the pointless interludes. Gotta skip em

How is Lateralus t/t weaker though? It's one of their best tracks!

Better song than anything off FI tho

indeed...also I like interludes...specially ones on Lateralus. They just draw me into the atmosphere there. And that album is my absolute Tool fave and for many.

The interludes on Lateralus are more like intros.
Aenima they were mischief for the most part

I find the Lateralus t/t to be kind of trite with the whole Fibonacci thing in the verses, the very on the nose lyrics, and a kind of dragging midsection. Definitely not one of my favorite tool tracks.
Doof, pretty hard to compare a 4 minute verse/chorus single to a bunch of 10 minute prog songs so it’s kind of whatever. Descending is the only song on FI that I’d put in contention with the band’s best stuff though.

Literally the only thing that holds back FI is that Maynard lost his range. The band totally delivers musically and it’s way more consistent than 10K days, where I really only like 3 tracks. Feels more like a follow up to Lateralus.
It’s not as harmonically interesting as Lateralus but rhythmically is awesome and generates a really consistent and engrossing atmosphere.

it's very retread-y and Maynard has lost the passion from his voice - yeah, that's my assessment too
