wiz you are insane!
Hahahahaha I am but I feel Target Earth just nailed their sound in such a modern way.

Target Earth was such an amazingly pleasant surprise. Not that I expected a new Voivod album to be bad.
Haven't heard Phobos yet, but this review nicely explains its context with the rest of their discog, well done again, Voivod!

I wasn't too keen on this on, much like the actual Phobos, which is an ugly looking moon.

I remember listening to this long time ago.. (when i lurked sputnik, like 2008 or 09?). Never liked this, but great review man.
Dimension Hatross and Nothingface is where this band truly shines.

I really see why most people who like Voivod's prior work feel alienated to this album.
Phobos was my first sonic contact with this band, I listened to it at a friend's house when it was out. It wasn't a very careful listening session and back then I thought of the album as a pretty passable affair, due to two reasons. The first was that back in the mid '90s my extreme metal background -not just death and black metal, but noise, hardcore, nu metal and industrial- was under pretty much non-existent.
The second reason is that this album needs a lot of time to sink in, even for listeners with a good extreme metal background.
The more I branched out to different extreme metal ends and the more i listened to this album, the more i appreciated it.

fuck yea voivod reviewing vintage voiv, nice

Have you considered being a TAD biased toward this band, VOIVOD?

deimos was better

I never understood the lack of love for this record. It's amazing, and didn't need any growing time whatsoever to click. I'd actually consider it my favorite Voivod album - somehow it speaks to me in a manner that the more established "classic" recordings fail to. The harmony here is amazing, some of the chord shapes and instrumental interplay featured is out of this world.
