I imagine deadwing is next
row, not a big fan of wilson?

I actually like him a lot, but at the same time he's the most frustrating artist I know. early era PT has some of my favourite jams (and Lightbulb Sun is actually one of my favourite albums) but I find alt-metal PT corny and unconvincing and lyrically appalling. but then he busts out a jam like Heartattack in a Layby or Arriving Somewhere... and I'm hooked all over again

my face is Mogadon
re: this album, drop Strip the Soul and The Sound of Muzak (absolute shite both of them) for Chloroform and Drown With Me and it goes up like a whole point in my ratings

Album Rating: 2.5
Chloroform would be a comf top 5 here for sure mmm
|
| |
Hot take, but this doesnt hold a candle to the two after it, as well as the two before it. Quality ratio is way off here, fucking hell.

I mean you're not wrong, although this and FOABP are in a dead tie for lyrical worst album of all time lol
|

Album Rating: 3.5
no way is foabp better than this
Xbox is a god to me
A finger on the switch
My mother is a bitch
My father gave up ever trying to talk to me
|
| |
FOABP is at least written together as an album lyrically. This is kinda back and forth from cringe to ok with no connecting concept.
Im sure we could find worse lyrical albums than both, by far, that said.

This is their best, just so consistently stunning and the most replayable for me.
|

Yeah they are. I was gonna throw out five finger death punch and praise steven wilson as a poet.

FoABP and this have some fantastic lyrics though, very up and down in that department.

only ones I like on here lyrically are Heartattack and Collapse, they're so outweighed by the lyrical awfulness of Strip the Soul, The Sound of Muzak etc. that its sadly not a contest
|
| |
Collapse is a fucking pretty ballad. Not really sure the chorus means anything though... Kinda ambiguous.

I really like the chorus line, especially given his tendency in the alt-metal era of PT to just beat the subject of the song into your head over and over, a little ambiguity is more than fine with me

Yeah, that song being vague and beautiful goes a long way here, great closer

I love the song. Coldplay wish they wrote it
