Not as bad as most are making it out to be but it's nowhere near as good as Level 2.

Yeah seriously, I don't know where all the hate is coming from. If anything, this sounds just like Level 2.

The biggest differences that I hear between this are two things: the production does them less favors this time around, and the songwriting isn't as memorable. And those two things really ruin this record for me.

I've always liked these young tech metal bands superficially, you know? If the guitar parts are cool or whatever, I'm a happy man. I'm not too attached to this stuff because I know some new band or album will eventually take its place.

Yeah, I do see what you mean. I suppose it's a matter of differing perspective, and for me LCTR has changed so much over the years that I was bound to eventually be disappointed.

Glad you understand. The truth in what you said is quite sad though.

Gets better with a few more listens but it's still a major step down from level 2

I wouldn't say that. Level 2 was much heavier and featured much more growling and harder hitting tracks. This shows them trying to add more prog elements and clean singing. Not as good but it's still decent. However, I don't enjoy the production on this album that much. Vocals are sometimes really low in the mix.

I suppose. I guess this is the band's Intrinsic.

Yeah this is exactly the kind of hollow, emotionless prog-metal I can't stand

Climactic, I remember you feeling similarly to me about Intrinsic. Is that's the case, I doubt you'll get much out of this record-- it's similarly atmospheric / airy, and lacking the punch of their previous album. Definitely check it out, though-- I'm excited to hear what you think.

It's less overblown and wanky but less cool too :p

i'll download it

seems like all these kinds of bands are trying to drop their core elements and go full-blown prog these days. altered state, intrinsic, this......it usually doesn't work

Their album before this sucked so yeah, this will too.

Would describe them as a 'poor mans BTBAM' but that's kind impossible to achieve.
