emerald rush that low? bloody ell, i suppose that's a testament to the strength of the other tracks though. C O S M might be the most intriguing track on it tbh

I've just overplayed it to the point where when it comes on I'm not really bothered. Might resist listening to singles in the future, but yeah it's definitely a testament to how good the album is. Ranking will probably change in a few weeks when it's sunken in more and I've given emerald rush a break so it sounds fresh again.

i'm in the honeymoon period with it right now, but i can tell it's gonna start to pall in a couple of days time, which would happen with any album when you play it 3 times a day for a week tbf

emerald rush is so good, sort of track i don't think i could ever tire of

This definitely has its moments, feel first life is lovely but there’s still something that doesn’t sit quite right with me.
It’s like Coldplay are peering over Enos shoulder trying to copy his exam answers.
Sterile, created without conflict.

And when I say this, I obviously mean the new one

ok good because immunity ain sterile
^ on that note, i can agree that singuarity has a very polished and refined tone to it. not sure how to feel about that but it's there imo.

New one is a 4 for me. Wonderful presentation and attention to detail, as expected. However, the first half sounds like a series of sequels to Open Eye Signal, and the ambient back half is not as uniquely beautiful as the quiet moments here.

that's why I'm not sure why Jon has aligned the new one with hallucinogens (to the point of having a DMT molecule shaped constellation on the front cover), since it seems too cinematic and sterile despite it's nuances, to recreate such an experience.

Feels like he wrote an absolutely killer soundtrack to an indie game called Emerald Rush tbh

Seems like refinement almost always leads an artist astray. Glad we got this record before Hopkins found the most polished iteration of his sound

Kinda agree altho by the time this album came out he'd been an established producer for upwards of 12 years, and I'd argue that this is a definite refinement of his prior material which was more disjointed and eclectic, as it maintains a fairly distinctive style throughout. Plus it has one of the more polished productions I've heard, which i guess is exactly what allows its many glitches and nuances to work so effectively.
Singularity is definitely a little sterile and over polished in parts, but still laden with enough nuance, and there are definitely some really organic moments on par with those on here. Tho if his next work continues the same trajectory I could see the impersonal/cinematic side really detracting the overall experience.

Is it just me or is this album cold as hell? It’s undoubtedly beautiful but definitely feels distant.
It’s hard to explain, idk.

I can see what you mean on the opener but i'd argue the contrary overall ..the title track is one of the warmest intimate electronic tracks i've heard

We Disappear is definitely robotic and quite ominous in nature, yeah.

For every cold, fractured moment here I think there’s a warm and intimate one too.

New one is so good but I still think this is probably better.
Might have to bump.

"For every cold, fractured moment here I think there’s a warm and intimate one too."
It's warm but in a very mechanical sort of way, like standing next to a very loud old heater, where Singularity is warm like sunshine. (I don't mean that as an insult to Immunity, it's probably my favorite electronic album ever.)
