"Futures, do you think people slicing themselves up are in a stable mental condition to actually seek

help"

In other words people that cut are insane. That or they're really stupid

Futures you're being ridiculous... people who commit self harm obviously are in a vicious cycle and they may be afraid of seeking help for a variety of reasons, logical or illogical. In any case judging an entire group of people who are clearly going through issues and calling them "pathetic" makes YOU look like the one who's being heartless here.

Sure it's used for attention, it's often a cry for help from people that are going through real struggles in their lives. I'm not going to go into the family situations that led a member of my family to self harm, all I'm saying is try to have more compassion and not be so quick to judge and assume.

People that cut for a long time can't blame it on mental break. If a "mental break" lasts for years then it's safe to say that that person was driven insane. Or they're really dumb.

And I really think most people would know they are being pushed to the edge a long time before anything gets bad enough that they would feel like they need to cut.

These are often people who are borderline suicidal, they often may want help but are afraid to reveal the true extent of their problems... if it had happened to someone close to you maybe you'd understand more. It really isn't always "that simple".

Again, I'm just saying it's better to keep an open mind with things (I'm assuming) you haven't dealt with rather than acting like you're an expert.

Well, surprise surprise.... A thread with snide in it turned to
shit. The real surprise, though, is futures is the one turning
it to shit.

It could be that simple if they weren't retarded. I'm depressed and guess what, I take antidepressants now.

Why would he lose his job exactly? I mean he could just buy some pills and never tell anyone. Sure

they might not work but you don't get it right the first time with those treatments anyway.

Sometimes people are afraid to seek help... again it's usually NOT logical, but regardless doesn't mean they should kill
themselves or that they're weak. Come on, I know people were compassionless on the internet but REALLY?

You do know you don't need to go to a doctor to get antidepressants right? It's probably a waste of money to go to one to be completely honest. They are just going to guess which pill they should give you and it probably won't work. You can get quite a few antidepressants without a prescription.

I work in the mental health/addiction field, and I deal with suicidal people every day. There is an unfortunate stigma attached to the mentally unwell, especially the suicidal. Hell, even drug addicts who receive treatment don't have their jobs waiting for them when they are released from a treatment center. It's a sad cycle. Suicide isn't something someone might just walk into a therapists office or call the police for help. Most of the time they are too afraid to, due to the exact outlook titanslayer and futures have on it. Not everyone is as mentally strong as you folks claim to be. I had someone in my treatment center who seemed to be fine, and then we found him hanging by a noose in his room. He asked for help, wanted to improve his life, and still felt the need to end it tragically. Instead of acting like know it all assholes, why not open your mind and realize these people are suffering, and either don't want the help or are too afraid to ask for it.

And sometimes antidepressants don't work. Not everyone is as fortunate as you, titanslayer.

Well they don't really need to ask for help when they can just order it from amazon. And if they don't want help that's kinda their own fault isn't it?
