I'll report back when I do. Where's the fun in keeping silent about it, right?

Besides, for a featured review only two pages of comments is pretty weak; Sputnik seems slower today.

I think that has more to do with the fact that this is a Metalstyles review haha

hey, hey, hey, what are you sayin' there bloc. Also, get ready to be friggin amazed (in reality I can see you giving it a 2.5 with a weak explanation ;)).

Who knows though, it's been a weird year and we've liked a lot of the same stuff in a very bizarre way.

I'm just saying you review albums from bands very few people have heard of, that's all ;)

True, the year's been good to us, but I'm PRAYING I can at least 3 this haha.

Funny. The cleans play a large part in killing this album.

that's...that's actually true yeah. I like to review lesser known bands because I know the bigger ones will get their time of the day (and a review) anyway. Btw, I have an interview coming up with Hord.

I'm praying as well. Let us pray together to the skies above.

@DoctorVelvet

Too bad, I acknowledge that they aren't the best, but they didn't bring the album down for me. Old bloccy up there has said that he doesn't like the clean vocals either, so they seem to be real deal breakers for some.

I agree with the album cover thingy. This cover is pretty abstract compared to Poseidon and Colossus as you say. While I think this cover is absolutely badass I like the style of Poseidon an Colossus a bit more. Poseidon is a damn piece of art. Album rocks hard by the way. I like it a lot. I'm probably looking at a 4 here.

Yeah I agree, Poseidon's booklet was fantastic computer-generated art. And I'm glad you like the album, man, although I was pretty sure beforehand that you would.

You guys only listened to the album opener right?

I'm 4ing this, but I want to 4.3 it. And I'm not happy to 4.5 it

I think people just need to realize that death metal isn't Incantation copies anymore

Hey man, ratings are only embellishments and guidelines of sort for lazy people anyway. As long as you like this a lot, it doesn't really matter if it's a 4 or a 4.3 in your mind, it's the enjoyment that counts. Though, I do see why in Sputnik they matter - you're always more inclined to check out the album with the higher rating when they're both in the same style, for example.

And yea, these guys mix styles pretty efficiently. There are some traces of death metal in here, but mostly it's just a hard-hitting but groovy metal record with a melodic undercurrent. The extreme metal tag suits Dagoba just fine.

I really dug their first record, but from album to album I somehow seem to enjoy them less. Will give this a spin anyway. Thanks for reminding me to check it out.

By first do you mean their self-titled? Because if so, that's certainly interesting, because that was their most rudimentary album by far. Also, Shawter's vocals were kinda horrible on that imo.

Yeah, the s/t. The riffing on that thing was amazing. Then they got too into tremolo runs.

I tried...

There are definitely some epic moments on this (like the ending of "The Day After The Apocalypse") but otherwise, I'm finding that most of the songs sound way too similar. And those clean vocals definitely ain't my thing.

I'm starting to think French metal isn't for me. Other than Gojira (whom I enjoy quite a bit) all other "métal français" I listen to never seems to sit well with me.

@turnip

There are some cool songs on that album, but I don't think it works as a whole and to me it was just too uncouth and juvenile. Still, there are some cool cuts, like "Rush", "Year of the Scapegoat", "4.2 Destroy" and "Dopesick". But yeah, imo by far the weakest Dagoba album, as they didn't really have an identity at that point and most of the songs on it sound the same.

@Bloc

The songs are similar, yeah, but not overly so imo. Sure, the drums pound relentlessly on every single track, but the guitar work is much more varied here than on any other album of theirs. And no love for Gorod (who are from France)? I thought they would absolutely be your thing?
