Every QOTSA album up until now has been a 3.5 for me, but this...THIS...is on a whole other level. They attain next level god tier status with this one. Perilously close to a 5 for me. Looking forward to checking out Villains after listening to this a bunch, but am going in with lowered expectations based on what I’ve heard about it. More than likely, I’ll be pleasantly surprised this time.

Yeah this is absolutely the best thing they've ever done. Villians is incredibly bland though.

Villains is still great but don't expect something of this calibre going into it.
Unfortunately I feel like we'll never get a QOTSA album in the future that touches this.

I'm telling you, you gotta kidnap Homme's dog to get the emotion flowing again

This album has a soul that QOTSA are yet to replicate, which makes sense given the more personal and intimate feel of this one.

I mean they've only had one shot. Doing two in a row like this wouldn't be very Queens, though there are some really moving songs on that one. He's still in touch with his emotions now

There isn’t a comparable album in their discog, before or after. I guess that could’ve been worded better.

Nah bruh, this is like an entirely different band too. Hard to compare this to any of their previous albums.

I feel Lullabies is the closest to this, though obviously with a very different vibe

Yeah if I had to choose one to compare it would be Lullabies

Yeah man, this is more what I was looking for from them. They make solid rock songs with some crushing riffs, but so many songs just seem devoid of any deep emotion. This album definitely remedies that.

SFTD is really good too though. But this is definitely their masterpiece, having heard everything except for Villains up to this point. The only weak(ish) links for me are Fairweather Friends and Smooth Sailing. Maybe they’ll grow on me some.

“They make solid rock songs with some crushing riffs, but so many songs just seem devoid of any deep emotion.“
the emotion is there on the earlier records. it’s just more oblique than it is here.
